Daniel R. Venables

Daniel R. Venables is an education consultant and founder and executive director of the Center for Authentic PLCs, an independent consulting firm that supports schools in building, leading, and sustaining authentic professional learning communities (PLCs). Over a career of more than 30 years in education, he has taught in both public and independent schools in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Connecticut for 24 years, serving as math department chair for 18 years and working as a professional development coordinator in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, one of the largest school districts in the United States. He holds a master’s degree in mathematics from Wesleyan University, was trained as a Math/Science Fellow with the Coalition of Essential Schools in 1994, and was named South Carolina Independent School Teacher of the Year in 2002.

Venables is the author of several books on PLCs and data-informed instruction, including Facilitating Teacher Teams and Authentic PLCs: The Human Side of Leading People, Protocols, and Practices (ASCD, 2018), How Teachers Can Turn Data into Action (ASCD, 2014), and The Practice of Authentic PLCs: A Guide to Effective Teacher Teams (Corwin, 2011).
