Daniel Russell Jr.

Daniel George Russell Jr., Ed.D., is an educator and researcher specializing in culturally and linguistically responsive implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). He co‑authored Supporting Underserved Students: How to Make PBIS Culturally and Linguistically Responsive with Sharroky Hollie, an equity-focused guide that aligns PBIS with cultural and linguistic responsiveness to better serve historically underserved student populations. His work builds on his doctoral research, which examined the factors influencing teachers’ culturally responsive implementation of PBIS, with particular attention to reducing racial disparities in exclusionary discipline.

Russell earned a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in 2021 with a mixed-methods dissertation on knowledge, motivation, and organizational factors affecting culturally responsive PBIS in K–8 schools. He is associated with Advocates for Cultural and Linguistic Responsiveness for Underserved Students, where his work has included developing and presenting tools such as a culturally and linguistically responsive walkthrough for assessing PBIS implementation in schools.
