Dav Pilkey

Dav Pilkey (David Murray Pilkey Jr.) is an American author, cartoonist, and illustrator best known for creating the Captain Underpants and Dog Man series of children’s books and graphic novels. Born on March 4, 1966, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia as a child and often spent time in the hallway at school, where he began drawing comics that evolved into his later characters. After high school he studied English at Kent State University, and a national student competition led to the publication of his first book, World War Won, in the late 1980s.

Pilkey has gone on to write and illustrate numerous bestselling and award‑winning children’s books, including the Caldecott Honor title The Paperboy, as well as series such as Dragon, Ricky Ricotta’s Mighty Robot, The Dumb Bunnies, Big Dog & Little Dog, Captain Underpants, and Dog Man. Dragon Gets By: An Acorn Book (Dragon #3) is part of his Dragon series for early readers. His books have sold millions of copies worldwide and have been translated into many languages, and he currently lives in the Pacific Northwest with his wife.
