Dave T. Nagel

Dave Nagel is an educational consultant, coach, and author whose work focuses on effective teacher and leader collaboration, assessment and feedback, and grading practices that improve student learning. He is certified in John Hattie’s Visible Learning and has written extensively on aligning grading, clarity, and feedback to develop assessment-capable learners and to ensure grades support growth rather than act as final judgments.

Nagel is the co-author of Grading Visible Learners: Learning With Fluidity, Not Finality and Developing Collaborative Expertise Teams: Transforming Schools Through Coherence, Belonging, and Consistency, both with Bruce Potter. He is a contributing author in the PLC+ series with Corwin, including PLC+: Better Decisions and Greater Impact by Design, The PLC+ Playbook, Grades K–12: A Hands-On Guide to Collectively Improving Student Learning, and PLC+: A Playbook for Instructional Leaders. Nagel is the owner of NZJ Learning LLC and the founder of The Center for Collaborative Expertise, through which he supports schools and systems in developing collaborative expertise and more impactful grading and feedback practices.
