David Shannon

David Shannon is an American author and illustrator of children’s books, best known for creating the Caldecott Honor–winning picture book No, David! and the bestselling A Bad Case of Stripes. Born on October 5, 1959, in Washington, D.C., he grew up in Spokane, Washington, and studied illustration at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, where he earned a fine arts degree before moving to New York City to work as an editorial illustrator. His editorial artwork has appeared in major publications such as The New York Times, Time, and Rolling Stone.

Shannon has written and/or illustrated more than forty books for children, including How Georgie Radbourn Saved Baseball, Duck on a Bike, Too Many Toys, and additional titles in his popular David series. No, David! received a Caldecott Honor in 1999, and How Georgie Radbourn Saved Baseball was named a New York Times Best Illustrated Book in 1994. He lives in Southern California (Los Angeles) with his family.
