Dawn M. Pilotti

Dawn M. Pilotti is a longtime mathematics and special education teacher and a coauthor of Proactive Mathematics Intervention, Grades 6–8: Priming for Success Through Engaging Tasks and Purposeful Design. She has more than 26 years of experience teaching mathematics and special education and has spent at least a decade at Currey Ingram Academy in Tennessee, a research-based model school for students with learning differences. She is also the McRae Family Foundation PK–12 Faculty Chair of Mathematics and serves as a mathematics specialist at Currey Ingram Academy.

Pilotti is an online doctoral student in the College of Education at the University of South Carolina, where her work and practice emphasize making mathematics accessible and meaningful for students who are typically underserved, including those with language-based learning disabilities. Her classroom approach focuses on real-world problem solving and extensive use of manipulatives and visual representations to help students build deep conceptual understanding in mathematics.
