Dean Robbins

Dean Robbins is a children’s author and journalist based in Madison, Wisconsin. He writes nonfiction picture books about real-life heroes, including Margaret and the Moon: How Margaret Hamilton Saved the First Lunar Landing, illustrated by Lucy Knisley and published in 2017. His other children’s books include Two Friends: Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass and The Astronaut Who Painted the Moon: The True Story of Alan Bean.

Robbins’s books have received starred reviews and best-of-the-year honors from major outlets and organizations, and have been praised in publications such as The New York Times, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, Publishers Weekly, Booklist, Kirkus Reviews, and School Library Journal. A former editor of the Madison weekly Isthmus, he has also contributed journalism to media including USA Today, the New York Daily News, Space.com, and Wisconsin Public Radio, experience he draws on to interview subjects like Apollo 12 astronaut Alan Bean and computer scientist Margaret Hamilton for his books.
