Debbie Miller

Debbie Miller is a teacher, author, and literacy consultant best known for her influential work on teaching reading comprehension in the primary grades. She taught and learned from children in the Denver Public Schools for about thirty years before transitioning to work extensively with schools and districts on long‑range planning and the development of literacy programs. She has also collaborated with organizations such as the Denver‑based Public Education and Business Coalition (PEBC), a nonprofit focused on supporting and providing leadership for schools locally and nationally.

Miller is the author of Reading with Meaning: Teaching Comprehension in the Primary Grades, originally published by Stenhouse Publishers in 2002 and updated in a widely used second edition in 2013. In addition, she has written Teaching with Intention: Defining Beliefs, Aligning Practice, and Taking Action and co‑authored or contributed to resources such as No More Independent Reading Without Support and What’s the Best That Could Happen?, as well as video series including The Joy of Conferring, Happy Reading, and Literacy Attendance.
