Deborah Shearer
Deborah A. Shearer, M.S., is a science educator and curriculum developer based in Houston, Texas. She is a former elementary science teacher in Friendswood, Texas, and later became the first teacher intern in the Astronaut Office at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, where she developed curriculum related to Space Shuttle missions and evaluated NASA educational materials. After her work with NASA, she served as an assistant principal and then principal in La Porte, Texas schools for ten years.
Shearer is coauthor of 5-Minute Science: Grades 1–3: Instant WOW! Activities That Get Kids Excited About Science, published by Scholastic Teaching Resources in 2019, a collection of 50 quick science experiments aligned with Next Generation Science Standards. She also co-wrote NASA’s Rockets: A Teacher’s Guide with Activities in Science, Mathematics, and Technology, Grades K–12, produced through the Teaching From Space Program at NASA Johnson Space Center. In addition to authoring trade books for schools, she works as a curriculum developer and professional development trainer for educators.
