Denise Vega

Denise Vega is an award-winning author of books for children and teens, including the picture book Adela’s Mariachi Band, illustrated by Erika Rodriguez Medina, which celebrates Mexican music and family mariachi traditions. She has also written works such as the middle school “blog” novel Click Here (to find out how I survived seventh grade) and its sequel Access Denied (and other eighth grade error messages), as well as picture books including If Your Monster Won’t Go to Bed, Build a Burrito: A Counting Book in English and Spanish, and Grandmother, Have the Angels Come?

Vega holds a B.A. in Film and Television from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and a master’s degree in education from Harvard University. She has served as a young adult mentor in the Regis University MFA in Creative Writing program and is Regional Advisor Emeritus of the Rocky Mountain chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). Her fiction has earned honors including the Colorado Book Award for Young Adult Literature for Click Here and additional awards for Grandmother, Have the Angels Come?
