Diana Herrington

Diana Herrington was a longtime mathematics educator who co‑authored Teaching Math with Google Apps: 50 G Suite Activities with Alice Keeler, a book that demonstrates practical ways to use G Suite tools to enhance math instruction from kindergarten through grade 12. She was widely recognized as a passionate advocate for math education and for integrating technology into the math classroom, including through workshops such as “Google Math” that focused on using Google Apps to support Common Core–aligned math teaching.

Herrington taught mathematics for about 30 years at Clovis High School before joining California State University, Fresno as a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, where she worked extensively with future elementary teachers. She received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching in 1999 and went on to serve on the California Teacher Advisory Council, to coordinate mathematics for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, and to advise the California governor on mathematics education. Her influence extended beyond the classroom through her involvement with the San Joaquin Valley Mathematics Project, and a theorem related to her work, known as the Slater Theorem, is cited as being named after her in a NASA context.
