Diane Dougherty

Diane Esolen Dougherty is an educator and author who has coauthored professional resources for K–6 teachers focused on writing, grammar, and formative assessment. She coauthored Grammar Matters: Lessons, Tips, and Conversations Using Mentor Texts, K-6 and A Closer Look: Learning More About Our Writers with Formative Assessment, K-6 with Lynne R. Dorfman, books that help teachers embed grammar and assessment practices within a writing workshop framework using children’s literature as mentor texts.

Dougherty lives in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. She is a graduate of West Chester University and holds a Master of Arts degree from Villanova University. Over her career, she taught in the classroom for 32 years and served as head of English/Language Arts for 10 years, and she has been active in state and national Writing Project initiatives.
