Diane Sweeney

Diane Sweeney is an educator, author, and educational consultant whose work focuses on student-centered instructional coaching. She has been an author and consultant since 1999 and is the founder of Diane Sweeney Consulting, an educational consulting group dedicated to implementing student-centered coaching practices in schools. She has taught and served as a literacy coach in Denver Public Schools and later worked as a program officer at the Public Education & Business Coalition (PEBC) in Denver. Sweeney holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Denver and a Master’s degree in Bilingual and Multicultural Education from the University of Colorado Boulder, and she has taught as an instructor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Sweeney is the author of multiple influential books on coaching, including The Essential Guide for Student-Centered Coaching: What Every K–12 Coach and School Leader Needs to Know (2020), Leading Student-Centered Coaching (2018), Student-Centered Coaching: The Moves (2016), and Moves for Launching a New Year of Student-Centered Coaching (2022), as well as coauthoring Student-Centered Coaching from a Distance (2021). Her writing and consulting are grounded in the premise that coaching should be designed to directly impact student learning, and she spends much of her time working with schools and educational organizations across the United States and
