Donalyn Miller

Donalyn Miller is an award‑winning Texas educator, author, and literacy advocate known for her work in fostering independent reading and building inclusive reading communities for children. She has taught upper elementary and middle school language arts and social studies in Texas and has received honors including TCTELA’s Elementary Language Arts Teacher of the Year (2011), TEA State Finalist Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year (2010), and TCTELA’s Edmund J. Farrell Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award (2018) for her contributions to the language arts teaching profession. Miller is the founder of Book Whisperer, Inc., an educational consulting firm, and works as a literacy coach, program advisor, speaker, and education writer.

Miller is the author of The Book Whisperer: Awakening the Inner Reader in Every Child and Reading in the Wild: The Book Whisperer’s Keys to Cultivating Lifelong Reading Habits, and co‑author of Game Changer!: Book Access for All Kids with Colby Sharp, The Commonsense Guide to Your Classroom Library with Colby Sharp, and The Joy of Reading with Teri Lesesne. She co‑founded the popular online community The Nerdy Book Club and created the #bookaday reading challenge, and her articles on teaching and reading have appeared in publications such as The Reading Teacher, Educational Leadership, Voices from the Middle, Horn Book, *School Library
