Douglas Finn III

Douglas Finn III is an educator and consultant with extensive experience in personalized competency-based education (PCBE). He has taught all grade levels from kindergarten through high school in Alaska and Maine and has been actively involved in PCBE since 2004. Since 2008, he has supported schools, districts, states, and international systems transitioning to PCBE as a professional development associate, first with the nonprofit Re-Inventing Schools Coalition and later with Marzano Resources, where he serves as an associate and author. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Montana and teaching degrees in biology and earth science from Northern Michigan University.

Finn is coauthor of A Handbook for Personalized Competency-Based Education: Ensure All Students Master Content by Designing and Implementing a PCBE System with Robert J. Marzano, Jennifer S. Norford, and Michelle Finn, a widely cited resource for designing and implementing PCBE systems. He also coauthored Scheduling for Personalized Competency-Based Education, which focuses on PCBE-aligned scheduling practices to group and support students based on learning needs.
