Susan Brady

Dr. Susan Brady, Ph.D., is an Emerita Professor of Psychology at the University of Rhode Island, where her work has focused on reading acquisition and reading disabilities, particularly the role of phonological and language processes in literacy development. She earned her Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from the University of Connecticut, following earlier positions at the University of Sussex, the University of St Andrews, and Haskins Laboratories in New Haven, Connecticut.

A leading researcher in the science of reading for more than three decades, Brady has served on the Board of Directors at Haskins Laboratories and received the Samuel T. Orton Award from the International Dyslexia Association for her contributions to understanding dyslexia and effective reading instruction. Her work frequently examines phoneme awareness, phonics, and other alphabetic skills and their implications for classroom practice, and she has been actively involved in efforts to improve reading instruction policy and teacher preparation at state and national levels.
