Edward F. DeRoche

Edward F. DeRoche is a professor in the School of Education at the University of San Diego and Director of the university’s Character Education Resource Center. He previously served as dean of the School of Education (now the School of Leadership and Education Sciences) from 1979 to 1998 and has been involved in the education profession for more than 30 years, working as an elementary and high school teacher, principal, and member of several school boards. DeRoche holds a BS from the University of Maine, an MEd from Eastern Connecticut State University, and an MA and PhD from the University of Connecticut.

A nationally recognized authority on character education and Newspaper in Education, DeRoche has authored or co‑authored multiple books on teaching, educational administration, and character education, including Educating Hearts and Minds: A Comprehensive Character Education Framework and Character Education: A Guide for School Administrators. He is co‑author, with Serena Pariser, of Real Talk About Time Management: 35 Best Practices for Educators, part of the Corwin Teaching Essentials series, which draws on classroom experience and wellness research to help educators improve their time management and classroom climate.
