e.E. Charlton-Trujillo

e.E. Charlton-Trujillo is a Mexican American author and filmmaker whose work spans young adult, middle grade, and picture books, as well as film and documentary projects. They grew up in small‑town Texas, earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, and completed an MFA in film at Ohio University, where they received the I. Hollis Perry–Billman and Betty Thomas Filmmaking Awards for their thesis film Cielito Liendo (Pretty Sky). Their early career included an internship at New York’s Killer Films and subsequent work with directors such as Betty Thomas, Douglas McGrath, and Lucy Walker.

Charlton-Trujillo is the author of the YA novels Prizefighter en Mi Casa and Feels Like Home, as well as Fat Angie, which won the American Library Association’s Stonewall Book Award and was recognized on the ALA Rainbow List. They continued Angie’s story in Fat Angie: Rebel Girl Revolution and Fat Angie: Homecoming and contributed to the anthology The Collectors: Stories. Their picture books include the Lupe Lopez titles Lupe Lopez: ¡Reglas de una estrella de rock! and Lupe Lopez: ¡Estrella de lectura! (also published in English as Rock Star Rules and Reading Rock Star) and
