Eileen Wynne Ball, Ph.D., is a researcher and coauthor in the field of early literacy and phonological awareness whose work has focused on helping young children develop foundational reading skills. She is coauthor of Road to the Code: A Phonological Awareness Program for Young Children, an 11‑week program designed to teach phonemic awareness and letter–sound correspondence to at‑risk kindergarten and first‑grade students through explicit, small‑group instruction.
Ball has coauthored influential research with Benita A. Blachman on phoneme awareness training and its effects on reading readiness, including work on phoneme segmentation training and the role of phonological awareness in early literacy development. Her scholarship on phonological awareness, such as her article in the journal Reading and Writing, continues to be cited in the literacy and dyslexia intervention literature.
