Eileen G. Feldgus

Eileen G. Feldgus, Ed.D., is an experienced elementary educator and literacy specialist best known as co-creator of the Kid Writing approach for early reading and writing instruction. Developed in Philadelphia in the 1990s with fellow teacher Isabel Cardonick, Kid Writing is a structured, workshop-based method designed to accelerate young children’s phonics, spelling, and writing development in kindergarten and first grade. Feldgus holds an elementary education degree from Temple University and has worked as a self-employed book author since 2000.

Feldgus is coauthor of Kid Writing in the 21st Century: A Systematic Approach to Phonics, Spelling, and Writing Workshop, including the original edition (1999) and a substantially updated second edition published in 2017 with Isabell Cardonick and J. Richard Gentry. Her work with Kid Writing has been adopted and promoted by organizations such as the Philadelphia Writing Project and the National Writing Project, which highlight the program’s emphasis on meaningful, joyful writing, individualized instruction, and strong parent involvement in early literacy.
