Elise B. Burns
Elise Burns is a veteran science educator and co-author of Going Gradeless, Grades 6–12: Shifting the Focus to Student Learning (Corwin, 2021), written with David Frangiosa. She has taught physics, chemistry, biology, math, and earth science over a teaching career of about 30 years, and her classroom work emphasizes using new technologies and instructional approaches to improve student learning.
Burns presents regularly at professional conferences such as NSTA, ASCD, and NJSTA, offering workshops on topics including rubric design, inquiry, standards-based learning, project-based learning, writing CERs (Claim–Evidence–Reasoning), and assessment design. In addition to Going Gradeless, she is also noted as co-author of a 2021 book on the learning progression model for assessment mentioned in her work with ReimaginedSchools.
