Elise Gravel
Elise Gravel is a Canadian author and illustrator from Montreal, Quebec, known for her humorous and visually distinctive books for children in both English and French. Trained in graphic design at Collège Ahuntsic, she went on to create more than thirty books that have been translated into around a dozen languages, often featuring whimsical characters and tackling themes such as social justice and biodiversity.
Her works include The Disgusting Critters series, which presents factual information about animals with a playful, comic tone, and The Worm, one of the titles in that series. Gravel received the Governor General’s Literary Award for French‑language children’s illustration in 2012 for her book La clé à molette and has also created titles such as The Mushroom Fan Club, The Bug Club, The Worst Book Ever, Jessie Elliot is a Big Chicken, and the Olga series.
