Elizabeth O. Crawford

Elizabeth O. Crawford is a teacher educator, author, researcher, and curriculum designer specializing in global education and global social studies education. She is a Professor of Elementary Education in the College of Education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where she supports educators in nurturing students’ global competence and their sense of empathy, responsibility, and concern for self, others, and the environment. Her earlier academic appointments have included serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Early Childhood Education at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia. She has taught in a variety of school contexts, including elementary and middle schools in France and the United States.

Crawford is the co‑author of Worldwise Learning: A Teacher’s Guide to Shaping a Just, Sustainable Future (Corwin), which supports K–8 educators and their students in engaging with interconnected social and ecological issues through inquiry and action. Her work focuses on global, solution‑focused curriculum design and promising practices that nurture teachers’ and students’ global competence, including advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through education. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Policy, Planning, and Leadership with an emphasis in Curriculum Leadership
