Else Hamayan

Else Hamayan is a psychologist and language education consultant specializing in second language learning, bilingualism, and dual language instruction. She is the former director of the Illinois Resource Center in Arlington Heights, a professional development center focused on teachers of linguistically and culturally diverse students. Born and raised in Lebanon, Hamayan earned her PhD in psycholinguistics from McGill University and has provided professional development to teachers and administrators in the United States, Latin America, and Europe on early childhood bilingualism, English language learners with special needs, cross-cultural learning, and dual-language instruction.

Hamayan is co-author of Dual Language Instruction from A to Z: Practical Guidance for Teachers and Administrators (with Fred Genesee and Nancy Cloud), as well as earlier and related works on dual language education such as Dual Language Instruction: A Handbook for Enriched Education. She is also co-author of Special Education Considerations for English Language Learners and Special Education Considerations for Multilingual Learners: Delivering a Continuum of Services, co-editor of English Language Learners at School: A Guide for Administrators, and co-author of CLIL in Context: Practical Guidance for Educators and Literacy Instruction for English Language Learners.
