Eric Beddows

Eric Beddows is the pen name of Canadian artist Ken Eric Nutt (born 1951 in Ontario), who works both as a fine artist and a children’s book illustrator. He began using the pseudonym Eric Beddows in 1986, combining his middle name, Eric, with his mother’s family name, Beddows, to distinguish his illustration work from his other art. He has lived and worked in Stratford, Ontario.

As Eric Beddows, he illustrated the Newbery Medal–winning Joyful Noise: Poems for Two Voices by Paul Fleischman, as well as its companion I Am Phoenix (the latter under the name Ken Nutt). His other children’s book illustration credits include Shadow Play by Paul Fleischman, The Cave of Snores by Dennis Haseley, Who Shrank My Grandmother’s House? by Barbara Juster Esbensen, and the Zoom series, for which he twice received Canada’s Amelia Frances Howard-Gibbon Illustrator’s Award. He won the Governor General’s Literary Award for children’s illustration in 1996 for The Rooster’s Gift.
