Erika Gold Kestenberg

Dr. Erika Gold Kestenberg is Associate Director of Educator Development and Practice at the Center for Urban Education and a Visiting Assistant Professor of Urban Education at the University of Pittsburgh, where she works with prospective and practicing teachers in urban schools around issues of equity and justice. She is a coauthor of “These Kids Are Out of Control”: Why We Must Reimagine “Classroom Management” for Equity, which examines classroom management as an equity and social justice issue and offers practices for creating culturally responsive, affirming learning environments.

Kestenberg holds a PhD in Education with a multidisciplinary, self-designed focus on social justice, a master’s degree and teaching certificate in secondary social studies education, and a dual bachelor’s degree in political science and history with a minor in psychology, along with a certificate in diversity and inclusion. Her prior experience includes teaching social studies, English language arts, English as a second language, service learning, and cross-cultural communication, and working as a teacher, trainer, advocate, and administrator in urban educational and nonprofit settings in the United States and Israel.
