Erin Dowdy

Erin Dowdy, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She is a licensed psychologist and nationally certified school psychologist, with a research program focused on behavioral and social-emotional assessment, particularly the universal assessment of social and emotional health and risk and equitable screening practices in school settings. She earned her B.S. from Florida State University and her M.Ed. and PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Georgia, and completed an internship at the University of Southern California/Children’s Hospital Los Angeles with specialized training in pediatric and clinical psychology. Prior to her academic career at UCSB, she worked as a school psychologist in a diverse school district south of Los Angeles.

Dowdy is a coeditor of Culturally Informed Approaches to Behavioral and Educational Assessment, which provides guidance for equitable behavioral and educational assessment of children and adolescents. Her scholarly work includes coauthored journal articles on topics such as behavioral and emotional screening systems and school-based mental health screening, including studies on the BASC-2 Behavioral and Emotional Screening System and universal screening for complete mental health in schools.
