Esther Deblinger

Esther Deblinger, PhD, is a Professor of Psychiatry at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, New Jersey and cofounder/codirector of the Child Abuse Research Education and Service (CARES) Institute. Her clinical work and research focus on the mental health impact of child abuse, childhood trauma, and the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder and related difficulties in children and adolescents, and she has more than 30 years of experience in this field.

Deblinger is a co-developer of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and a coauthor of Treating Trauma and Traumatic Grief in Children and Adolescents (including its second edition), alongside Judith A. Cohen and Anthony P. Mannarino. She has written numerous scientific articles, book chapters, books for professionals, and educational books for children on body safety and the treatment of child sexual abuse. Deblinger has served on the board of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children and has received honors including the Outstanding Research Career Achievement Award from that society, the Rosenberry Award from Children’s Hospital Colorado, and awards from SAMHSA and the New Jersey Office
