Eve L. Ewing

Eve L. Ewing is a writer, sociologist of education, and cultural organizer from Chicago. She is an associate professor in the Department of Race, Diaspora, and Indigeneity at the University of Chicago, where her work focuses on how racism and social inequality shape the experiences of young people in urban public schools. Ewing earned a BA from the University of Chicago, an MAT from Dominican University, and both an EdM and PhD from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

She is the author of the novel for young readers Maya and the Robot, as well as the poetry collections Electric Arches and 1919 and the nonfiction work Ghosts in the Schoolyard: Racism and School Closings on Chicago’s South Side. Her broader body of work spans multiple genres, including poetry, essays, and comics, and she has written for major comics franchises such as Ironheart, Black Panther, and X-Men.
