Felicia Rose Chavez

Felicia Rose Chavez is an American writer and award‑winning educator known for her work in anti-racist pedagogy and creative writing instruction. She is the author of The Anti-Racist Writing Workshop: How to Decolonize the Creative Classroom (Haymarket Books, 2021) and co-editor of The BreakBeat Poets Vol. 4: LatiNEXT with Willie Perdomo and José Olivarez. Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Chavez holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from the University of Iowa and has taught writing at the University of New Mexico, the University of Iowa, and Colorado College, where she served as the Bronfman Creativity and Innovation Scholar-in-Residence and received the Theodore Roosevelt Collins Outstanding Faculty Award.

Chavez’s career also includes leadership in community-based arts and youth literary initiatives: she served as Program Director of Young Chicago Authors and founded GirlSpeak, a feminist webzine for high school students. Her teaching has been recognized with multiple honors, including Most Innovative Instructor of the Year at the University of New Mexico and Outstanding Instructor of the Year at the University of Iowa.
