Gay Su Pinnell
Gay Su Pinnell is professor emerita in the School of Teaching and Learning at The Ohio State University and a member of the Reading Hall of Fame. Her work with Irene Fountas helped shape widely used approaches to literacy instruction, including guided reading, Reading Recovery, the Literacy Collaborative, and the Leveled Literacy Intervention model.
Pinnell has extensive experience in classroom teaching and field-based research, and she has received multiple honors for her contributions to literacy education, including the International Reading Association’s Albert J. Harris Award, the Ohio Governor’s Award, the Charles A. Dana Foundation Award, and an honorary doctorate from Lesley University. Her published books include Guided Reading: Responsive Teaching Across the Grades, Teaching for Comprehending and Fluency, Literacy Beginnings, Genre Study, and The Literacy Quick Guide.
