Grant P. Wiggins

Grant P. Wiggins (1950–2015) was the founder and president of Authentic Education in Hopewell, New Jersey, and the co-founder of Understanding by Design with Jay McTighe. He earned a B.A. from St. John’s College in Annapolis and an Ed.D. from Harvard University, and his work focused on assessment reform, curriculum design, and performance-based assessment.

Wiggins is best known for Understanding by Design and related UbD materials, including Schooling by Design and The Understanding by Design Guide to Advanced Concepts in Creating and Reviewing Units. He also wrote Educative Assessment: Designing Assessments to Inform and Improve Student Performance and Assessing Student Performance: Exploring the Purpose and Limits of Testing.
