Greg Ashman

Greg Ashman is an Australian teacher, school leader, and education writer known for his work on evidence-informed classroom practice and cognitive load theory. Born and raised in the United Kingdom, he studied Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge before training as a teacher at the Institute of Education in London. He taught in three London comprehensive schools, where he held leadership roles including Head of Science, Assistant Headteacher, and Deputy Headteacher, before relocating to Ballarat, Australia, in 2010. He has since worked at Ballarat Clarendon College in Victoria, where he has served as Head of Mathematics and Deputy Principal.

Ashman holds a PhD in Instructional Design and has been described as a teacher, researcher, blogger, and podcaster, as well as an Honorary Fellow or adjunct researcher affiliated with Australian higher education. He is the author of A Little Guide for Teachers: Cognitive Load Theory, The Truth About Teaching: An Evidence-informed Guide for New Teachers, and The Power of Explicit Teaching and Direct Instruction, which focus on applying research from cognitive psychology and instructional design to improve classroom teaching.
