Harper Lee

Harper Lee (born Nelle Harper Lee on April 28, 1926, in Monroeville, Alabama) was an American novelist best known for her classic work To Kill a Mockingbird, first published in 1960. The novel, which explores racial injustice and moral growth in the American South, won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1961 and has become one of the most widely read and studied works in American literature. Lee studied at Huntingdon College and later read law at the University of Alabama, and she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2007 for her contribution to literature.

In addition to To Kill a Mockingbird and its various editions and translations, including the Spanish-language edition Matar un ruiseñor, Lee is also the author of the novel Go Set a Watchman, published in 2015. She lived most of her life in Monroeville and died there on February 19, 2016, at the age of 89.
