Harriette Stevens

Harriette S. Stevens is a mathematics educator and curriculum designer specializing in mathematics instruction and argumentation in middle school settings. She is coauthor of Mathematical Argumentation in Middle School—The What, Why, and How: A Step-by-Step Guide With Activities, Games, and Lesson Planning Tools, published by Corwin in 2017, which provides a research-based framework and classroom resources to support teachers in implementing mathematical argumentation aligned with the Standards for Mathematical Practice.

Stevens holds an Ed.D. from the University of San Francisco with a focus on mathematics instruction and curriculum design and has over thirty years of experience directing K–12 mathematics professional development programs at the University of California’s Lawrence Hall of Science. Her work has included collaborating with urban school districts nationwide, developing mathematics curricular and teacher in-service materials, and consulting as a senior math education designer with TERC, with an emphasis on strengthening teachers’ mathematical content knowledge, classroom discourse, and students’ ownership of their mathematical thinking.
