Harry K. Wong

Harry K. Wong (1932–2024) was an American educator, author, and highly sought-after professional development speaker known for his practical, classroom-tested guidance for teachers. A San Francisco native, he graduated from Lowell High School, earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and later completed a doctorate at Brigham Young University; he began his career as a secondary school science teacher, including teaching biology at Menlo-Atherton High School in Atherton, California.

Wong was best known as co-author, with Rosemary T. Wong, of The First Days of School: How to Be an Effective Teacher, a leading education title that has gone through multiple editions and sold millions of copies to new and experienced teachers. Over the course of his career he produced more than a hundred publications and resources on classroom management, new teacher induction, and effective instruction, co-created an eLearning course on classroom management, and appeared in the video series The Effective Teacher.
