Helen D. Hume

Helen D. Hume is a veteran art educator, teacher trainer, and author with more than thirty years of experience teaching art in the St. Louis, Missouri area, including serving as art department head at Parkway West High School, where she taught painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, commercial art, photography, and art history. She has also taught art at all levels, from K–12 to pre-service teachers at Florissant Valley Community College, and supervised practice teachers in art for Webster University and Fontbonne University. Hume has international teaching experience in schools in São José dos Campos, Brazil, and Antwerp, Belgium, and has been an active exhibiting member and board member of the St. Louis Artists’ Guild.

Hume is the author of numerous widely used art education resources, including The Art Teacher’s Survival Guide for Secondary Schools: Grades 7–12, The Art Teacher’s Survival Guide for Elementary and Middle Schools (including later editions co-authored with Marilyn Palmer), and The Art Teacher’s Book of Lists.
