Ingvar Lundberg

Ingvar Lundberg (1934–2012) was a Swedish psychologist and reading researcher known for his work on phonological awareness, reading acquisition, and dyslexia. He earned a B.A. from the University of Stockholm in 1960 and a doctorate in 1964, and later served as professor of developmental psychology at Umeå University before becoming a research professor at the University of Gothenburg.

Lundberg’s research helped establish the importance of phonemic and phonological awareness in early reading development, and he coauthored Phonemic Awareness in Young Children: A Classroom Curriculum with Marilyn Jager Adams, Barbara R. Foorman, and Teresa Beeler. His published work also includes studies on phonological awareness training in preschool children and the early precursors of reading acquisition.
