James Tanton

James Tanton is an Australian-American mathematician and math educator, born in Adelaide, Australia, who earned his PhD in mathematics from Princeton University in 1994. He has taught mathematics at both the university and high school levels, including serving as a college professor for about a decade and as a high school teacher for about a decade, and has been associated with the Mathematical Association of America as Mathematician-at-Large and ambassador. He is a co-founder of the Global Math Project, an international initiative to change perceptions of school mathematics that has reached millions of students and teachers worldwide.

Tanton works globally as an independent mathematics consultant, author, and speaker, creating curriculum resources, professional development programs, and widely viewed online mathematics videos. He is the author of more than ten books on mathematics, curriculum, and education, including Math Decoded: Explaining the Why Behind the Numbers and How They Operate in the Corwin Mathematics Series, as well as earlier works such as Solve This: Math Activities for Students and Clubs and The Encyclopedia of Mathematics.
