Janet B. Andreasen

Janet B. Andreasen, PhD, is an associate lecturer of mathematics education at the University of Central Florida (UCF), where she serves as coordinator of secondary education and works with prospective and practicing K–12 mathematics teachers at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Miami and both a master’s degree in mathematics education and a PhD in education (mathematics education) from the University of Central Florida. Her research interests include the mathematical knowledge needed for teaching, the use of technology to foster students’ mathematical learning, and classroom practices such as standards-based grading.

Andreasen is a coauthor of Making Sense of Mathematics for Teaching: Grades 6–8 (Unifying Topics for an Understanding of Functions, Statistics, and Probability) and has also published articles in mathematics education journals, including work on universal design for learning and developing multiplicative thinking from additive reasoning. She has presented her scholarship at professional meetings and has authored additional book chapters and articles in state and national venues focused on mathematics teaching and teacher education.
