Janice Behrens

Janice Behrens is a children’s book author and longtime editorial director and writer at Scholastic, based in Brooklyn, New York. She has extensive experience creating early literacy and educational materials for young readers, including work on children’s magazines and concept books for toddlers.

Behrens is the coauthor of the Let’s Find Out Readers: Animals & Nature / Guided Reading Levels A–D single- and multiple-copy sets and Let’s Find Out Readers: In the Neighborhood / Guided Reading Levels A–D, nonfiction collections designed for emergent readers in pre-K–2 classrooms. Her broader body of work includes early nonfiction titles such as We Are Alike, We Are Different (Scholastic News Nonfiction Readers), concept books in the Rookie Toddler line (e.g., My Favorite Book of Numbers and other toddler-focused titles), and informational series like Be an Expert! and Scholastic Rookie Amazing America, which introduce young children to topics ranging from everyday numbers and voting to landforms and community helpers.
