Jayne K. Drake

Jayne K. Drake is a scholar of academic advising and higher education administration, known for her long-standing leadership at Temple University and within NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising. She serves as Vice Dean for Academic Affairs in Temple’s College of Liberal Arts and has held roles including Director of the Master of Liberal Arts Program and Associate Professor of English. Drake is a past president of NACADA, where she has been a prominent voice on advising as a teaching and learning process.

Drake is co-editor of Academic Advising Approaches: Strategies That Teach Students to Make the Most of College (Jossey-Bass, 2013), alongside Peggy Jordan and Marsha A. Miller. Her published work includes the widely cited article “The Role of Academic Advising in Student Retention and Persistence,” in which she argues that advising is a relational, learning-centered practice that supports student success beyond clerical recordkeeping. Through her writing, webinars, and professional leadership, Drake has helped define academic advising as an integral component of the teaching mission of higher education.
