Jeffrey Benson
Jeffrey Benson is an education consultant, author, and former school leader with more than 40 years of experience in K–12 education. He has worked in a wide range of school contexts as a teacher in elementary, middle, and high schools, as an administrator in day and residential schools, and as an instructor in undergraduate and graduate programs. His work focuses on social and emotional learning (SEL), restorative discipline, inclusive classrooms, learning theory, and staff and leadership development, and he coaches principals and teachers while facilitating school-change initiatives.
Benson is the author of Improve Every Lesson Plan with SEL (ASCD, 2021), which guides K–12 teachers in integrating SEL into existing lesson plans to support the whole child and address inequities. He has also written Hanging In: Strategies for Working with the Students Who Challenge Us Most, Ten Steps for Managing Change in Schools, Teaching the Whole Teen: Everyday Practices That Promote Success and Resilience in School and Life (coauthored with Rachel Poliner), and Hacking School Discipline Together, along with numerous articles on SEL and school discipline. Benson is based in the Boston/Brookline, Massachusetts area and continues to consult with schools through his education consultancy.
