Jeffrey D. Wilhelm
Jeffrey D. Wilhelm is a Distinguished Professor of English Education at Boise State University and an internationally recognized scholar of literacy teaching and learning. A classroom teacher for fifteen years, he is the founding director of the Maine Writing Project and the Boise State Writing Project and regularly teaches middle and high school students in addition to his university work. Wilhelm holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction (Literacy Education) from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and has authored or coauthored more than 30 books on literacy education.
His published work includes books such as Reading Unbound: Why Kids Need to Read What They Want—and Why We Should Let Them, which reports research on adolescents’ pleasure reading and its implications for classroom practice, and classroom-focused texts like Deepening Comprehension With Action Strategies: Role Plays, Text-Structure Tableaux, Talking Statues, and Other Enactment Techniques That Engage, Enriching Comprehension With Visualization Strategies, Improving Comprehension with Think-Aloud Strategies, and Engaging Readers & Writers with Inquiry (Theory and Practice).
