Jennifer Knudsen

Jennifer Knudsen is a mathematics education researcher and curriculum designer whose work focuses on mathematical practices and their applications in real-world and classroom contexts. She is a senior mathematics education researcher at TERC and has led multiple long-term research and design projects on professional development to help teachers engage middle-grades students in deeply mathematical discourse. Earlier in her career, she taught high school mathematics and computer science in New York City public schools. She holds a BA with a focus on mathematics from The Evergreen State College.

Knudsen is the lead author of Mathematical Argumentation in Middle School: The What, Why, and How, a step-by-step guide that introduces a four-part model of mathematical argumentation and provides activities, games, and lesson-planning tools for middle school teachers. She has also co-authored articles on teaching and learning mathematics through problem-based curricula and real-world contexts and served as curriculum director for the Middle-school Mathematics Through Applications Project (MMAP).
