Jennifer M. Tobias
Jennifer M. Tobias is a mathematics educator and researcher who serves as an associate professor of mathematics education in the Department of Mathematics at Illinois State University. Her work focuses on elementary mathematics, particularly the preparation of prospective elementary teachers and the development of their understanding of number concepts and operations, including topics such as unitizing, rational numbers, and algebraic reasoning.
Tobias is a coauthor of Making Sense of Mathematics for Teaching Grades 3–5: How Mathematics Progresses Within and Across Grades, published by Solution Tree Press in 2016 and recipient of Learning Magazine’s 2018 Teachers’ Choice Award for Professional Development. She has also authored and coauthored numerous scholarly articles on mathematics education, including work on developing multiplicative thinking from additive reasoning and on prospective teachers’ conceptions of unitizing and algebraic reasoning in fraction contexts.
