Jennifer Torres

Jennifer Torres is an award‑winning children’s author and freelance journalist whose work is inspired by her Mexican‑American heritage and centers on themes of home, friendship, and unexpected courage. She is the author of the middle grade novel Stef Soto, Taco Queen, as well as other books for young readers including picture books, chapter books, and middle grade titles such as Finding the Music/En Pos de la Música, Flor and Miranda Steal the Show, The Fresh New Face of Griselda, and the Catalina Incognito series. Her books have received strong critical attention, and Stef Soto, Taco Queen has been recognized on state award lists and translated into other languages.

Before becoming a full‑time author, Torres worked as a reporter for The Record newspaper in Stockton, California, covering education, immigration, and issues affecting children and families, and she continues to write as a freelance journalist. She studied journalism at Northwestern University and the University of Westminster in London and lives in California with her family. In addition to her fiction, she co‑authored the professional educator resource Seasons of Literacy: A Monthly Guide to Growing Lifelong Readers and Writers, a yearlong planning guide that supports teachers in cultivating engaging literacy experiences.
