Jennifer Ward

Jennifer Ward is an Assistant Professor of Elementary and Early Childhood Mathematics Education and Elementary Undergraduate Program Coordinator at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. Her work focuses on teaching mathematics to young children from birth through grade 3 through a social justice lens and supporting pre-service and in-service teachers in using equity-based practices in early childhood mathematics classrooms. She has taught in classrooms from prekindergarten through high school, with most of her experience in kindergarten and first grade.

Ward is a co-author of Early Elementary Mathematics Lessons to Explore, Understand, and Respond to Social Injustice, part of the Corwin Mathematics series, along with Courtney Koestler, Maria del Rosario Zavala, and Tonya Gau Bartell. She holds a BS in Elementary and Special Education and an MA in Early Childhood Education from the State University of New York at Geneseo, and completed a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with a dual focus in Early Childhood and Mathematics Education at the University of South Florida, where her dissertation, Early Childhood Mathematics Through a Social Justice Lens: An Autoethnography, examined teaching mathematics for social justice with four- and five-year-old children.
