Joan Sedita

Joan Sedita, M.Ed., is a veteran literacy educator and the founder of Keys to Literacy, a professional development organization that supports evidence-based reading and writing instruction across the United States. She has worked in the literacy field since the mid-1970s, serving as a teacher, school administrator, teacher trainer, and literacy consultant, and spent 23 years at Landmark School in Massachusetts in roles including teacher, supervisor, principal, and program director. Sedita holds a Master’s degree in Reading Education from Harvard University and a B.A. from Boston College.

Sedita is the creator of The Writing Rope framework for explicit writing instruction and the author of The Writing Rope: A Framework for Explicit Writing Instruction in All Subjects and The Essentials of Adolescent Literacy: Integrating Evidence-Based Reading and Writing Instruction in Grades 5–12. She has also authored or coauthored several literacy and study-strategy resources, including The Key Three Routine: Comprehension Strategies, LETRS Module 11 Writing: A Road to Reading Comprehension, Active Learning and Study Strategies Using Kurzweil 3000, and The Landmark Study Skills Guide.
