Jody Guarino

Jody Guarino, Ed.D., is a teacher educator and mathematics leader who serves as a lecturer in the School of Education at the University of California, Irvine, and as Manager of the Teaching, Learning, and Instructional Leadership Collaborative at the Orange County Department of Education. A former National Board Certified elementary teacher with over two decades of classroom experience, she holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Azusa Pacific University, an M.S. in Education from California State University, Fullerton, and a B.A. in Communications and Sociology from the University of Southern California. In her roles, she supports coherent, equitable mathematics teaching and learning for students, teachers, and administrators and has collaborated with organizations such as Student Achievement Partners, Illustrative Mathematics, Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium, and New Leaders.

Guarino is the coauthor of Reigniting Math Curiosity With Learners in Grades 3–5 and Nurturing Math Curiosity With Learners in Grades K–2, which focus on building math-curious classrooms and supporting rich mathematical argumentation in the elementary grades. Her writing and professional learning design emphasize student-centered mathematics, instructional coherence, and centering students’ and teachers’ ideas in classroom practice.
